Greater Onboard Safety with Defibrillators

Transporting one and a half million passengers by sea every year is both a commitment and a responsibility.
It requires providing continuous, efficient, comfortable — but above all — safe connections every single day.
In Italy, more than 70,000 people suffer from cardiac arrest each year, and only 2% survive — a very low survival rate mainly due to delayed emergency response.
Moreover, nearly 80% of cardiac arrest deaths occur far from hospitals or medical facilities.
Medmar fleet vessels already comply with all international maritime safety standards,
but starting today they will also be equipped — as the first in the Gulf of Naples — with a crucial life-saving tool:
the semi-automatic defibrillator. Each vessel operating between Ischia, Procida, Naples, and Pozzuoli
will now carry one of these devices. In recent months, onboard staff have completed the required training and
obtained the official certification to operate defibrillators.
As is well known, defibrillators are often essential for saving the lives of individuals suffering from cardiac arrest,
allowing immediate intervention within the critical response window imposed by heart-related conditions —
especially in remote or hard-to-reach places like a ship at sea.
Traveling with Medmar is now not only easier — thanks to online booking and numerous sales points —
and more comfortable — with free Wi-Fi and onboard assistants —
but also safer than ever before.
